Teeny tiny Newborn Nappies.

Made from offcuts of flannel I bought from the op-shop
These are so tiny!
I used a free pattern called Shar's Newborn fitted Nappies
Which I downloaded from the Nappy Network Site.

I'm a big fan of cloth nappies!
Michael has never worn a disposable and we have travelled.
Modern Cloth Nappies are really very little extra work than disposables, a heck of a lot cheaper and environmentally much kinder on the planet. There are studies to prove this!
Oh and the water to wash them in you ask...
Well how much water does it take to produce one dispossible?
How much water to grow the tree they pulp ?

How can there be very little extra work you ask to use cloth?
Do you read the fine print on your disposables? Did you know you are supposed to scrape the solids into the loo? Did you know you aren't supposed to put soiled nappies into your bin without scrapping them? Well you can't use your bin as a toilet!!! It's a health risk.
So if you are scraping a nappy out any way how much harder is it to throw the nappy into a bucket than the bin? then into a washing machine?

And we won't talk about the chemicals that go into producing those disposables that go on your babies delicate skin....

Ok I admit it I'm a Cloth Nappy Addict!!
They are so darn cute, how could I not be?

Fleece Longies

Another "oldie" but goodie.

I made these using the pants pattern. I altered it by increasing the rise, especially at the back. I simply added a fleece waistband, slightly stretched. The rise on these is huge almost goes up to Michael's armpits, just the way I wanted them. It's so cold here at night and often when I pick him up his singlet and top will rise and expose his tummy and back. The extra high rise will keep him warm on cold winter nights. He's in cloth nappies and an All-in-one suit tends to not fit over his bulky bottom, it's also a little tricky to change in the middle of the night. These pants are made out of Polar fleece and they act like a waterproof nappy cover, keeping the bedding dry.

Modern Cloth Nappies

We love Modern Cloth Nappies. So easy, so cheap and so cute! Michael hasn't worn a disposable yet. Most of Michael's nappies have come from swaps with friends on Nappycino. Some have been gifts and a few I have bought.

Melinda sent Michael a gift of a terry and velour nappy, wool pants and a special velour nappy with a Bob the Builder Applique! Thank you Melinda. The sewing is perfect and they will all be well used!

Caroline also on Nappycino swapped me some nappies for some crochet. Some great nappies here with a little one for Lilly's cabbage Patch Doll. Lilly loves her dolly nappy.

Mandy another Nappycino member sent me a huge stash of nappies as a gift! I was amazed she could fit that many in a postpack. There's a lot of use left in these and some well sort after brand names including Honey Boy! I'd never seen one in real life before.

The last photo are nappies that Lindy swapped me for some little sewn outfits for her beautiful boys.

I've been overwhelmed with the gifts and well wishes of Nappycino members. Thank you to all my friends on Nappycino for your support and friendship.

Handspun wool and Alpaca Soakers

I managed to knit these up watching the tv last night. Once more I didn't get to bed until a ridiculous hour. Like a good book a knitting project that only needs a few more rows is hard to put down. I used 6mm neeedles for the body and 4mm for the rib. I only just had enough with 100gms. The lanolin in these is heavy and my hands felt very soft after knitting this up.

Doing the Tango

Lilly has been very impressed with her new Tango Nappy. She pulled it off the clothes airer and insisted on wearing it again this morning. She's very choosy with her nappies. I got this one off Tanya's Ozebaby store.

Reconstructed nappy

A day passed the deadline but it's done
An old flannel swaddling wrap and terry flat that is almost threadbare. I didn't end up using the sheet.
I made the body out of two layers of the swaddle cloth and one of the terry flat. I used the remains of the terry flat as the internal soaker and the remains of the swaddle cloth as the outer soaker, which I zig zagged to the back.
I also drafted the pattern myself using these instructions
Lilly is starting to get too big for most of the larger nappies I have. The rise is 20 inches and waist 20 inches

Miss Lilly's New Pants

I finished the last of my hand dyed wool. This is the 10ply from Bendigo woollen mills. I really like the way the colour knitted up on these. They took the 200gms of wool and still needed more I think as they aren't as long in the leg as I would like nor wide enough in the leg. They should keep her nice and warm this winter.

Not my best Soaker

I thought I had enough wool to knit the soaker. I ran out 3/4 through so finished it with the Possum Merino from the Purly Curly and crochet the legs with the Heirloom wool from the Doodlepants shorties. She'll be wearing them at night so no one should see :D and I used up the scraps of yarns. Must be the quilter in me. :D I had to piece even when I knit.
The pattern for this one came from Punk Knitters

New Nappy.

Lilly's new CuddleBuns nappy arrived today. A little late for xmas but still usable. Lilly loves her new nappies and loves having her photo taken. Such a little poser! I made the dress she's wearing. I'm going to include a similar design in the Desert Rose Toddlers Collection.

Hot off the Needles

I mangaged to finish Lilly's shorties. It was 2 am when I finally went to bed last night. I finished adding the hearts this morning. I again made her pants too big, as you can see in the first photo. I added a drawstring to keep them up.I even checked the tension this time and knitted a swatch. This was my practice run for using this pattern. I'm going to use the doodlepants pattern again to make longies with the hand dyed yarn I bought from Dyelicious.

New Nappy

I bid and won a Tango Nappy from Ozebaby. There was also a wet bag with it. Here's Lilly doing her little model with it on. I love the snowman on the rump! It's a great fit.

Wool Soakers

I've been knitting and crocheting again. The first time in years. I made Lilly some wool soakers for sleeping. The ones at the top are made from possum and Merino wool, they are so soft. I used the Curly Purly pattern and it worked great. Although I did make them a little large, nothing a bath of hot water can't fix!

The crochet soakers were very quick to make.I've added links to the patterns I used. They work really well at keeping the bedding dry at night. Very important as Lilly sleeps with Peter and I most nights. I've bought some lanolising balls to lanolise them. I'm now working on a pair of shorties. I've also bought some beautiful hand dyed wool from Dyelicious on Ozebaby. I can't wait for it to get here. I'll make Lilly some longies with it.Will post some pictures when I've finished. I had forgotton how much I enjoyed knitting in front of the cricket.

New Nappies!

Two New Nappies Arrived For Lilly. They are so cute. One from Pookey Pockets, embroidered butterflies on Denim. The other a Cute Tooshies Bamboo, so so soft. Lilly has inherited my pot belly!
