A Square hat on Round needles - Toddler

YARN 8ply dk weight
Tension 22sts to 10cm
Worked on 4mm 40cm Circular needles

Left twist - Slip 2 sts on to a cable needle and leave at front of work, knit next 2 sts, then knit 2 sts from cable needle.

Right twist - Slip 2 sts on to a cable needle and leave at back of work, knit next 2 sts, then knit 2 sts from cable needle.

Cast On 88 stitches
Join in Circle being careful not to twist. Use a stitch marker to mark beginning of rounds
Work 12 rounds of k2p2 rib.

Round 1 - 4 p10, k4, p6, k4, p6, k4, p20, k4, p6, k4, p6, k4, p10

Round 5 p10, Left twist, p6, Right twist, p6, Left twist, p20, Left twist, p6, right twist, p6, Left twist, p10

Round 6 - 12 p10, k4, p6, k4, p6, k4, p20, k4, p6, k4, p6, k4, p10

Round 13 p10, Left twist, p6, Right twist, p6, Left twist, p20, Left twist, p6, right twist, p6, Left twist, p10

Round 14 - 18 p10, k4, p6, k4, p6, k4, p20, k4, p6, k4, p6, k4, p10

If you prefer a deeper hat continue in the pattern to the desired length.

Finishing.
Fold the hat in half and kitchener stitch the back and front together, I turned the hat inside out to do this. OR if Kitchener stitch is a little too hard - cast off and turn inside out, fold in half and back stitch the seam. Make tassels and sew them to the corners of the hat.

Learning to Knit

The kids have been asking me to teach them to knit. We spent an hour this morning learning to knit. A very frustrating process for me. All 3 wanting help at the same time. James in particular found it very hard as he isn't co-ordinated. Rose did very well, but tired quickly and wandered off to play. Fern learnt very quickly and is still sitting in the chair knitting :) The kittens wanted to help. I ended up having to put them in the bathroom as they were annoying the kids.



Oliver wouldn't give up. He wants to knit too.

Simply Skinny Scarf

8 ply yarn - The sample is knitted in Hand-dyed Four Bags Full Merino.
Amount needed varies according to the length.
5.5mm needles

Cast on 20 sts.
Row 1 - 4: Knit 4 rows
Row 5: k1,( yo k2tog) repeat to last st, k1.
Repeat row 5 until desired length.
Work 4 rows of knit.
Cast Off.

I added a simple fringe to the edge of the sample.

How lucky am I
For mother's Day Peter bought me a set of Knit Pick needles! There was enough room in the case to store my Addi turbos too. I'm knitting a scarf on them right now and they are bliss :)

Recent Custom longies

I've been a little slow in posting these to the blog. Too busy knitting and crocheting :). I've got a few more customs to start and finish before I can offer another custom slot on the Ozebaby store, which I've taken down while I catch up. Thank you to all those who support my yarn addiction and pay me to knit and crochet for them.

Changing Seasons

We have had rain. The garden is green and lush. Peter has replanted the vegie beds ready for the winter. The chooks are still lazy and we are only getting 1 or 2 eggs a day. The rhubarb is huge. The eggplants are still producing. We are still getting the ODD tomato. The camillias are blooming and the roses fading. The lavendar is slowing. We are in the process of buying the block next door and I have dreams of a duck pond with ducks. The sliverbeet is beautiful but the kids won't eat it :(. the pumpkins need picking and the vines pulling as the downey mildew is attacking them. The herb patch needs weeding and chillies picking.

Number six is on their way ...
