handspun and knit socks.

It's been a while since I made socks.

My stash of handspun is getting out of hand so time to get some knitting done.

 I spun the yarn from a Lucinvale fleece, I dyed with Earth Palette dyes.

It's not a particularly soft fibre so will wear well for socks.

 I'm not a snob with fibres or fabrics.

I've been working with fibres and fabrics long enough to know they all have their place.

I like a fibre with a little strength for bags, socks and hats, things that need to take hard wear.

I like soft fibers for scarfs, cowls and things to cuddle into.

 Hand knit socks are just so nice,

I knit them to fit my feet perfectly.

I can make them delicate and pretty or practical and hard wearing.

I can make them soft and snuggly for indoor wear 

or tough and practical for hiking up a mountain.

Since losing the weight my feet now fit into lots of pretty shoes!

I now have a shoe fetish.

Knitted socks from Handspun

These were supposed to be for Peter.

I stuffed up. 

Being the lazy impatient person I am.

I didn't do a swatch.

The socks were way too big for Peter and a little too big for me.

Easily fixed, I'll just throw them in the machine and felt them.

Would they felt? 

Only by a small amount, just enough for them to fit my feet.

Looks like I have a new pair of warm socks.

Yarn : My homespun spun from a romney cross fleece from Lucindale Handspinning Fleeces

Needles: Addi Turbos 30cm circs 3mm ( I love these for socks!)

I've now cast on another pair of socks for Pete.

This time with commercial sock yarn.

Pete has arthritis in his toes and he swears my hand knit socks really help with the pain.

Self Striped Socks another SSS completed.

I cast these on way back in November and quickly got bored with the stocking stitch. They are knitted in Lincraft Hot Socks yarn. I'm pleased with the final result but in future will avoid a plain stocking stitch sock. I did learn a new skill knitting these .. Breastfeeding and knitting at the same time!

Great pattern. Very easy and quick to knit up on ADDI Turbos 3.75cm 30cm's circular needles.

I love the feel of this yarn Heirloom Cashmino, very soft. The stitch definition is beautiful.

I find black a pretty boring colour for socks but Peter loves it.

Nice and quick to knit up. In 8ply wool I handdyed from Bendigo Woolen Mills.



These are still in progress. In 4ply hot socks from Lincraft. on 2.25 dpns. The pattern is a basic sock pattern which was on the band of a ball of yarn.

Left Over Wool Socks

I had some left over wool from my last two sock club socks and not wanting to waste it I used it it make some anklet socks.

Needles: 3.75mm Addi Turbo Circs
YaRN: Fyberspates BFL in Blue Lagoon and Moss
Pattern: adapted from Lion Brand - striped footies

Modifications: I used a k1 p1 rib for the cuff and contrast colour for the heels and toes. I didn't do the stripes.

Moss Socks

First pair of my Southern Summer of Socks finished.

Yarn: Fyberspates BFL Moss Colour way
Pattern: Moss from Fybersplates Sock Club
Needles: 3.25mm DPNS

I used a sewn off cast off to keep the ribbing elastic. Instructions came from Woolwonder.com

I have cast on the first sock for my second pair.

New Challenge

Ok time to set some goals:

1. To knit 2 pairs of socks per month until xmas, 6 pairs in total
2. Learn and try the magic Loop method.
3. Finish one pair of socks before casting on the next :) - this is the hard one!

But before I can start I NEED to finish the Mommy Snug. I don't have too much more to do but I'm so bored with it. Miles and miles of 2x2 rib are so boring. I fell like that fish in the Finding Nemo movie ... just keep knitting...just keep knitting.. just keep knitting.
