Fabric Requirements
.5m of woven fabric. I used quilter's cotton.
Snaps
40cm of 6mm elastic

Printing the pattern
Make sure the pattern prints at scale.
There are four sheets.
Match the broken lines of the front and back to make two pieces.

Cutting

Cut two of front and two of back.
Keep the waste in the center, from this cut two strips 4cm by 24cm.
The strips are used to finish the crotch opening.
Cut a strip 4cm by 55cm to encase the elastic for the shoulders.

Pin the center front seams of the front.
Pin the center back seams of the back.
Sew with a 1cm seam allowance
Finish the seam with a zigzag stitch close to the stitching.

Trim close to the zig zag stitch.

Make a narrow double fold hem at the diagonal arm opening.
Fold over about 4mm and then over again to enclose the raw edge.
Press well and pin.
Sew with a straight stitch to secure the hem.
Do this for the four arm hole edges.

The casing for the ribbon is sewn next.
Fold over 4mm then fold over 15mm press well with the iron and pin into place.
Sew with a straight stitch close to edge of hem.
Do this for front and back.

Time to sew the side seams.
Place the front and back right sides together and sew the side seams with a 1cm seam allowance.
Sew close the the seam with a zig zag stitch and then trim close to the zigzag stitch to tidy up the seam

Finishing the crotch opening

Take the two strips 4cm by 23 cms
They go on the front and back inside leg.

Pin them right sides together to the inside leg seams.
Sew with a 1cm seam allowance.

Fold the facing strip to the wrong side along the seam line and press.
Fold under the raw edges of the strip. Then sew that down.

This reinforces the areas where the crotch snaps will be placed.
Do this on the front and the back.
The front can be a little less cooperative in sitting nice.
Don't worry about this too much you really won't see it once the snaps are on!
A bias facing would fix this but for the sake of laziness and fabric economy an on the grain facing will do.

Trim the ends of the strips even with the hem.

Hem the bottom of the legs with a double fold hem.

Cut a strip of fabric 4cm by 55cm long
Cut 6mm elastic 40cm long
We are going to encase the elastic in the fabric.
Fold the strip of fabric in half length wise and press.
Sew along the raw long side with a 6mm seam allowance.

Next pin the elastic to the seam allowance.
Pin matching the ends and the middle points.

Using a wide zig zag sew the elastic to the seam allowance only!
Stretch the elastic as you go.

use a safty pin and pin into the elastic then turn the pin and insert into the tube.
This is a little fiddly. The elastic is sewn to the seam allowance it will not twist and will sit nice in it's casing!

Half way through here! A little wiggle and jiggle does the trick!

Once turned using the safety pin again thread the encased elastic through the front and back casing.
Remove the safety pin and sew the two ends of the encased elastic together.

Wiggle the join until it's inside the overall neck casing, this will hide the join.

WARNING
Do not use a ribbon in the casing.
Unless it is firmly secured in some way,
it may pose a choking risk to a baby.

Apply the snaps to the crotch. I placed two on each inside leg.
Avoid putting a snap in the center as the bulk from the seams meeting is too great and a snap wouldn't sit well.
Instead of snaps butttons and button holes could be used.

This is the trial garment I made.
I used ribbon in the casing here as thie will only be worn my Lilly's poor doll!
Lilly's poor battered doll is modeling the fit.
My girls are pretty tough on their dolls.
